Vietnam produces over 1.7 million metric tons of coffee annually — about 95% Robusta, 5% Arabica. Our sourcing network spans the three growing regions that matter for export-grade green beans, each with its own elevation profile and cup signature.
The historical heart of Vietnamese Robusta. Volcanic basalt soil, 500–700m elevation. Bold body, low acidity, chocolate and nut notes — the workhorse for blends and instant-grade roasters.
Vietnam's specialty Arabica region at 1,500m+ elevation. Bourbon, Catimor, and Typica varieties. Clean, balanced cup with stone fruit and mild citrus — increasingly popular in third-wave roasting circles.
Emerging specialty regions in northwestern and central Vietnam. Cooler microclimates, smaller harvests, more distinct terroir. Limited volume but growing reputation among traders looking for differentiated origins.
Vietnam is the world's second-largest coffee exporter and the largest Robusta supplier globally. For roasters and traders, it offers a combination of price, scale, and increasingly competitive specialty quality that few other origins match.
Understanding how Vietnamese green coffee is graded helps you specify exactly what you need and compare quotes apples-to-apples. Below is the working vocabulary used in Vietnamese export contracts — the same terms you'll see on bills of lading, quality certificates, and price sheets.
Vietnamese Robusta is graded by screen size (S18, S16, S13) and defect count per 300g sample. Grade 1 means the largest, cleanest beans; Grade 2 allows higher defect tolerance and is the workhorse for instant coffee and commercial blends.
Arabica grading mixes Vietnamese commercial standards with international SCA cupping scores. Specialty buyers care about the cup score (SCA 80+ = specialty) and processing method; commercial buyers care more about screen size and moisture.
Processing dramatically affects cup profile and price. Vietnamese Robusta is overwhelmingly natural-processed (sun-dried). Specialty Arabica from Cau Dat increasingly offers washed and honey processing, with prices reflecting the labor difference.

Common questions from roasters, traders, and importers evaluating Vietnam as a sourcing origin.
We source Robusta (Grade 1, Grade 2, Screen 18, Screen 16, Screen 13) from Dak Lak and Gia Lai, and Arabica (washed, natural, honey process) from Cau Dat, Son La, and Khe Sanh. We also handle specialty lots, certified organic, and Rainforest Alliance / 4C certified beans on request.
Standard MOQ is one 20-foot container (approximately 19.2 metric tons). For specialty Arabica or certified lots, we accommodate smaller LCL shipments starting from 5 metric tons. Sample bags of 1–5 kg are available for quality evaluation before contracting.
We export from Ho Chi Minh City (Cat Lai, Cai Mep) and Da Nang ports. Lead time is 2–3 weeks from contract signing to vessel loading for in-stock lots, and 4–6 weeks for harvest-specific or processed-to-order lots. We work with FOB, CIF, and CFR Incoterms.
Every lot is cup-tested at our partner lab, screened for moisture (max 12.5%), defect count (per SCA standards), and bean size uniformity. Pre-shipment samples are couriered to buyers for approval. Third-party SGS or Cafecontrol inspection is available on request and recommended for first-time buyers.
Vietnam is the world's largest Robusta producer, offering 20–35% lower FOB pricing than Brazil for comparable grades. Arabica from the Central Highlands has gained recognition in specialty markets for its clean, balanced cup profile. Vietnam also offers shorter shipping lead times to North Asia and competitive Free Trade Agreement tariffs into the EU, UK, Japan, and South Korea.
Buying Vietnamese coffee directly from a single farm sounds appealing — until you hit the realities of language barriers, inconsistent quality across harvests, payment risk, and the logistics of moving green beans from a farm in Dak Lak to a vessel in Cat Lai. A sourcing agent solves the parts of the trade that don't scale by Zoom, while keeping you close to origin where it matters.
